Dave Weich, founder
At Powell’s Books, Dave directed marketing and development efforts that established the independent bookseller as a formidable national brand. Online sales increased from 1.5% of total corporate revenue to more than 30%, and meanwhile traffic grew from 1,000 unique visitors per day to a peak of more than 90,000. He created and managed a newsletter program that eventually distributed 2.25 million opt-in emails per month. In 2008, he launched Indiespensable™, a groundbreaking subscription service that turned profits less than three months after roll-out.

As creator of Out of the Book™, Dave produced three 40-minute films (Ian McEwan: On Chesil Beach, David Halberstam: The Coldest Winter, and State by State: A Panoramic Portrait of America), conceiving and successfully executing a national screening series model that brought them to more than 70 cities across the US and UK. Participants included Ian McEwan, Joan Didion, John Hodgman, Susan Orlean, Bob Woodward, and Anthony Bourdain.

Winner of several “Best of the Web” citations from Yahoo! and Forbes, his work has been featured in the New York Times and recommended by both the New Yorker and the Webby Award-winning culture guide Very Short List.
